Aim: This presentation will explore future directions in endodontics. Topics will include vital pulp therapy, file evolution, and novel technologies in irrigation and obturation.

Learning objectives:

  • Describe indications and application of vital pulp therapy in modern endodontics
  • Identify generations of NiTi instruments and describe metallurgic improvements in the latest generation of systems
  • Outline challenges in endodontic irrigation and describe novel systems to meet these challenges
  • Describe contemporary obturation methods and risks to early adoption of new methodologies

Professor William McLean
BSc (Hons), BDS, PhD, PG Dip (Endodontology), MFDS RCPS (Glasg), FHEA

Will is Professor of Endodontology and Honorary Consultant in Endodontics at the University of Glasgow. He is lead for Undergraduate Endodontics and Programme Director for the MSc Endodontics. He is also lead for the Glasgow Endodontology Group, a research group working on the biology of endodontic disease and novel strategies for its clinical management. He also works within referral practice in endodontics in Perth and Inverness.

He is President of the British Endodontic Society, European Regent for the International Federation of Endodontic Associations and Dental School Tutor for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.  He is Conference Chair of the World Endodontic Congress 2024 to be held at the SEC in Glasgow.
