“Complete Dentures – the whole tooth and nothing but the truth”
This lecture will provide an overview of the past, present and future of complete denture provision and will demonstrate how demographic changes have created significant challenges in the treatment of edentulous patients. Some of the more advanced options will also be covered in a look to the future of Prosthodontics.
- To be able to describe the origins and development of complete denture provision
- To have an understanding of the factors that can lead to improved outcomes for edentulous patients
- To be able to discuss some of the more advanced options in clinical and laboratory techniques.
This course is designed to meet the GDC’s development outcomes (A) & (C) and will qualify for 1.5 hours of verifiable CPD.
About Roddy Black
Roddy Black graduated BDS in 1981 from Glasgow University and spent the first year working as a house officer at Glasgow Dental Hospital; 6 months in Oral Surgery and 6 months in Prosthodontics. From 1982 onwards he worked in various dental practices around the Glasgow area until eventually buying Eaglesham Dental Surgery in 1986 with his wife and partner, Irene Black.
In September 1983 he started working one session per week as a visiting GDP in the Prosthodontic department in GDH. This quickly became two sessions and then five sessions for a few years up to 1990.
He obtained the MGDS degree from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1993.
Roddy retired from dental practice in June 2017 but continues to work in the Dental Hospital as a part time Specialty Grade in the Restorative Department.
